Home-style Turkish borek: yufka sheets brushed with a milk and oil mixture, rolled around a spiced ground beef filling and baked golden with sesame. Great for breakfast or tea time.
Ingredients
Instructions
- 1
Finely chop the onion. Heat 1 tbsp of the sunflower oil in a skillet and cook the ground beef over medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes until the liquid evaporates and it crumbles.
- 2
Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes more; season with the salt and black pepper, take off the heat and let cool slightly.
- 3
Whisk the remaining sunflower oil with the milk in a bowl. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and grease a round baking pan with a little of the mixture.
- 4
Cut the yufka sheets in half. Lay each half flat, brush it with the milk mixture, spread a line of filling along the straight edge and roll up tightly.
- 5
Coil the rolls side by side in a spiral, starting from the center of the pan, and pour the remaining milk mixture evenly over the top.
- 6
Beat the egg, brush it over the borek and sprinkle with the sesame seeds.
- 7
Bake in the preheated 180 °C oven for 35-40 minutes until golden on top; rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
