A syrup-soaked dessert from Bursa: small balls of dough made with lor cheese and semolina, baked and then soaked in syrup until spongy.
Ingredients
Instructions
- 1
For the syrup, bring the 400 g sugar and the water to a boil in a saucepan, simmer over low heat for 10 minutes and let cool until warm.
- 2
Mash the lor cheese and mix it with the eggs, melted butter and 20 g sugar.
- 3
Add the flour, semolina and baking powder and knead into a soft dough that doesn't stick to your hands; rest for 15 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- 4
Pinch off walnut-sized pieces, roll into balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet; press a shallow dent into the center of each with your thumb.
- 5
Bake at 180 °C for 20-25 minutes until golden.
- 6
Put the hot pastries into the warm syrup, simmer over low heat for 5 minutes and take off the heat; let them soak for 1 hour before serving (soaking not included in the total time).
